Saskatoon is een redelijk kleine stad, waar niet al te veel te beleven valt. Het ligt te midden van de prairies in een uitgestrekt plat landschap. Een zeer interessante attractie is het Wanuskewinpark. Het ligt een eindje buiten de stad en is niet al te makkelijk bereikbaar, maar het is zeker de moeite. Het is in zijn geheel gewijd aan inheemse bevolking en in tegenstelling tot het omliggende land is dit een valleigebied met serieuze reliëfverschillen, daarenboven zijn er ook verschillende archeologische sites te bezichtigen van in pre-contacttijden, een ideaal gebied om te wandelen. Er is ook een klein restaurant en museum, met enkele tentoonstellingen en demonstraties. Er werd getoond hoe een tipi wordt opgetrokken, de kinderen mochten hier zelfs bij meehelpen en een knap Cree-meiske gaf haar eerste publieke dansdemonstratie, waarbij ze, ondanks het feit dat ze al gans haar leven danste, verging van de zenuwen, zonder reden zo bleek, maar plankenkoorts is nu eenmaal niet eenvoudig weg te krijgen. In het stadscentrum was er nog het Tastes of Saskatchewan festival. Verschillende restaurantketens hadden standjes waar mensen hun specialiteiten konden uitproberen voor een schappelijke prijs.

Saskatoon is a reasonably small city, that hasn’t got too much to offer. It’s located in the middle of the prairies in a vast flat landscape. A very interesting attraction is the Wanuskewin park. It’s a ways out of town and it’s not easily accessible, but it’s definitely worth your while. It is totally focused on the indiginous population and unlike the surrounding land, this is a valley area with obvious topography fluctuations, on top of that there’s several archeological sites from pre-contact times to be seen. All in all an ideal area to walk around in. There’s also a small restaurant and museum, with expositions and demonstrations. They showed us how a tipi was built, in fact the kids were allowed to help in the building and a cute Cree girl gave her first public dancing demonstration, and despite the fact that she’s been dancing all her life, she was clearly very nervous, for no reason to be honest, but I guess stage fright is hard to overcome. Downtown there was the Tastes of Saskatchewan festival: several restaurant chains had stands in which people could taste their specialties for a decent price.

Saskatoon est une ville assez petite, où il n’y a pas grand chose a faire. La ville se situe au milieu des prairies dans un vaste environnement plat. Une attraction tres intéressante est le Parc Wanuskewin. Ce parc est quelques kilomètres hors de la ville et pas trop facile à atteindre, mais ça vaut la peine. Wanuskewin se concentre complètement sur les peuples endogènes et contrairement au pays environnant, ceci est un environnement de vallées avec de grandes différences de relief, en plus il y a plusieurs sites archeologiques des temps avant le contact Européen, idéal pour des promenades. Il y a aussi un petit restaurant et un petit musée, avec des expositions et des démonstrations. On nous a montré comment à faire un tipi, en faite les enfants pouvaient assister dans la construction, et il y avait une fille Cri mignonne qui dansait sa première démonstration publique et bienqu’elle aie été un danseuse pendant toute sa vie, elle était vraiment nerveuse, sans raison je dirai, mais le trac n’est pas facile a éliminer. Au centre-ville il y avait encore le festival “Tastes of Saskatchewan”. Plusieures chaînes de restaurants avaient une kiosque où l’on pouvait goûter leur spécialités pour un raisonable prix.
